View from inside Chicago's Cultural Center, where we heard opening remarks at this year's 50th annual Adult Education Research Conference (AERC) held at National-Louis University.

Today's Comedy Around The World segment says goodbye to Chicago. For now, anyway.  One thing about travel is that there are many surprises.  Some we are not aware of until after we leave the particular city, state, or country.

One of those surprises was the Cultural Center.  We had various receptions and events at the Cultural Center during our AERC conference.  I focused on meeting colleagues, hearing their research, and getting food.  Not necessarily in that order, OK I admit it.

What I didn't realize until now is that all that time I had been standing underneath the world's largest tiffany dome.  That made me wonder:  What other treasures do I miss because they are not so obvious to me?

This is exactly where the best comedy comes from.  It is hidden in our everyday experiences.  And sometimes even in our trials and tragedies.  Maybe especially in those.

When we forget to look up during our tragic events--to look at the brighter side; the side that, like the tiffany glass, lets in the light--we miss the treasures that are already there.  That were always there.  If only we would have been aware.

This week, see what humor YOU can create or capture from your everyday experiences.  Share them here or on my Facebook Fan Page at

Another surprise, I just read that there are weekly Dame Myra Hess Memorial classical concerts held at the Cultural Center.  No relation.  But then again, I don't know...maybe that's another surprise...
