Out of the Zone
photo

Comedy Around The World this week goes to Turkey.  That's the Bosphorus Strait in the photo.

A last-minute decision brought me to the wonderful, interesting, fascinating, friendly country of Turkey.  It was my first overseas flight in almost ten years.  Graduate school will do that to a person.  And tuition will, too.  But the goal of attending my friend's wedding in Istanbul was bigger than my worries about packing, paying, sleeping, shopping, etc.  I was about to get uncomfortable.

We all have a zone that's comfortable to us.  It's different for each one of us.  Comedy is my comfort zone.  Traveling--especially after a ten year hiatus--is not. But I know I am more prolific precisely because I am outside of my comfort zone.  This location forces us into awareness.  Because by definition, everything there is new and unusual--if we're open to it.  I can't expect and tell other people to go outside of their comfort zone and try using their sense of humor, if I won't go out of mine to do things that are scary for me.

So look for more updates from Turkey all week.  Use the info to help you, "Get Your SHINE Together!" and get out of your comfort zone for a while!
